Its always interesting to me to find a whisky that doesn’t come from Scotland, but still has a lot of good press. A friend of mine, who shares my love of whisky and is often the one that I talk to about these important matters also shared his awesome book, Ian Buxton’s 101 Whiskies to Try Before you Die. I bought this whisky, as a celebration after a surprising victory at work. It came from the lovely people at The Green Welly Stop. I drank it, with my friend Ben, in the house from a Glencairn glass.
Nose: Apple, Lemon, Oak and Vanilla.
Taste: An initial flavour of alcoholic sherbert lemons, gives way to a buzz of honey and eventually blossoms in to a floral burst, which lingers long and warm. If this whisky was band, it would be the Polyphonic Spree. Bold, fun and different to other around it.
Mouthfeel: Soft, mellow and smooth, yet flavoursome.
Overall: This is a really interesting whisky, which travels a line between fruit, wood, vanilla, nuts and children’s cereal. I was really surprised by how enjoyable and fun this whisky was. I am really keen to take a trip to Norfolk to check out this distillery and I would love to try some more drams from them.
