IMG_4232Tonight, I was lucky enough to be invited to be part of the #TullamoreDew Tweet Tasting thanks to the kindness of @TheWhiskyWire and the folks at Tullamore Dew. It was my first experience of a Twitter tasting and I was blown away by the generosity of the drams and the equipment that came with them. My good friend RealDramSi joined me for the second half of the tasting and was similarly impressed.

The first dram that we started with was the Tullamore Dew Original. I was drinking it from the appointed and inscribed Tullamore Dew Glencairn glass.

Aroma: Apples, Pears, Vanilla – Caramel Apple Tart

Taste: This is initially all about the flavours that are present on the nose. Its rich with autumnal orchard fruits, apple and pear. These notes mingle and combine with a sweetness of buttered toffees.

The flavour develops slowly and calmly with mellow oak notes and light, sweet spicing.

The finish is somewhere between a digestive biscuit and a ginger snap. It is mellow, sweet and sticks around on the palate reminding the drinker to keep drinking.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, but not overly subtle.

Overall: I was surprised by just interesting this whisky was. For a blended whisky at such a low price point, it is definitely drinkable and enough to mean that you can even drink it neat.
