Vinterdröm (Winter Dream) is the latest seasonal release from Mackmyra. We were lucky enough to sample this at the Trade and Press day at the Whisky Show. Vinterdröm is finished in casks that contained Barbadian and Jamaican Rum and like all the seasonal releases is bottled at 46.1% ABV.
Cost: £50-60
Appearance: Light golden shimmering glow.
Aroma: The instantly recognisable Mackmyra nose. Fresh and fruity with slight cinnamon spice notes. Given some time in the glass, there is lovely waft of freshly baked Apple Pie along with some pineapple notes.
Taste: Initial oily, spice and oaky notes. Followed by some dried fruits, a hint of cinnamon and amaretti biscuits. Mid-Long finish with light smoke, salt and a definite spiced wood influence from the rum casks.
Mouthfeel: A smooth and oily dram with some light spice.
Overall: Another great seasonal expression from Mackmyra, the rum casks have given it a light spice kick before the very typically fruity and fresh Mackmyra style comes through and compliments it. Yet another bottle i’ll be looking to add to my collection.
