Price: £30 – 40

ABV: 43%

Appearance: Golden sunlight absorbed by wood.

Aroma: On the nose, this dram has a swirl of butter toffee, that mingle and combine with the oats and raisins of a just baked flapjack, all underpinned by a fresh green apple and pear fruit.

Taste: On the palate, this dram is intially golden syrup sweet and smooth. Then it opens out to a wonderful concoction of roasted nuts, light oak spice, ginger heat and the roundness of rich stone fruit from a christmas cake. As the spice mellows and sticks around, the sweetness returns and delights the palate.

Mouthfeel: Light, easy to drink, but complex.

Overall: This is a fantastic entry level dram, it is unbelievably drinkable, but also has layers of flavour making it complex enough to warrant repeated drinking. Both the bourbon and sherry casks are evident in the final flavour and contribute interesting flavour and aroma notes to the end dram. I think Tomatin are one of those distilleries that just seem to do what they do very well. Also they are a distillery that are definitely worth a visit! (See our tour review.
