Aroma: At first, I picked out maritime wooden notes, like salty sea drops landing on wood. With this came a warming sweet spice. Then as I nosed again, there were notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and sweet coca cola cubes.
Taste: Here at first there are tropical fruit notes, maybe mango and apricot – it is sweet, light and yet zesty.
Then there is a quickly arriving warming, but sweet spice. This part of the whisky reminds me of Belgium buns. Fruity, sweet, yet spicy.
This final spice lingers and becomes more vegetal and more wooden. Then there is a coppery, minty note that appears with more drinking.
Appearance: Golden Brown
Real Dram Factor: This whisky is great. It has a lovely mellow sherry fruit, but also a warming spice. It lingers long with minty, buttery pastry notes. For all this, I would give it a solidly good 7.4 out of 10. This was close to being my favourite of the set, but it doesn’t quite have the dynamism to challenge Whisky D.
(EDIT: After finding out which whisky this was I was really surprised. I haven’t been taken by the Glenallachie branding and so hadn’t tasted any of their new core range. This whisky made me want to explore further!)
