Aroma: There is a really complex aroma to this dram. It is at first sweet with a creamy sherbet aroma, like DibDabs. It then becomes a musty sherry fruit, but at the end there is a sweet, toffee popcorn aroma.
Taste: This whisky starts with a sweet butter toffee flavour and the sweet lemony sherbet of the nose
Then like the aroma, it morphs into musty, oak cask darkness. There is also a malty dried fruit sweetness – think malt loaf, but without the customary spread of butter.
The finish is a nutty milk chocolate, like praline chocolates.
Appearance: Golden Brown
Real Dram Factor: This is a single cask Speyside whisky that was produced at Tomintoul Distillery and bottled by independent bottler Chorlton Whisky. Here at TRD, we are big fans of Chorlton. They produce small quantities of each whisky that they bottle, but they are priced fairly and so far in our experience, they seem to all be of a high quality too. Tomintoul is not a distillery that I have tried many whiskies from, but if this bottle is anything to go by, then they make great spirit.
I was a big fan of this bottle and sadly my part of the share finished with this review – for a I would buy again quality, we award it 7.9 out of 10.
You Will Like This If… You like big flavoured gentle giants. Bold and sweet, but not over powering… Like a sherry casked Arran.
