Returning afresh to something or someone you love after time spent apart is always full of joy. Absence makes the heart grow fonder so they say and it has been a long time since I have owned and opened an official Aberlour bottling. An impending trip to Speyside and a stock clearance at a local supermarket, made this the perfect dram for tonight.
Aroma: Rich sherried fruits intertwine with vanilla, stewed apples and custard.
Taste: The first flavours are silken sweetness, like a floral honey or golden syrup. Then there is a warming, rich oak note that carries with it cherry, vanilla and a cinnamon spice. As the dram fades away there are darker clove like notes and a lovely warming heat at the back of the tongue. It might be seasonal suggestion, but it feels like the perfect autumnal whisky.
Real Dram Factor: Solidly 7.5 with a suggestion of higher in front of a log fire.
