Could have, would have, should have… made more space in my suitcase and saved up more whisky purchasing power before going on a whisky trip to Speyside. It was inevitable probably that some drams would be tasted, loved and not brought home, but this is one that hurt. So, when it came to buying for my next whisky club night, I knew what to do.
Aroma: If you looked up whisky aroma in a dictionary, it would read like this smells. Musty, fruity, full of vanillas, oak and with a big maraschino cherry waft over the top. It is the smell of stepping into a dunnage warehouse and sharing with the sherry loving angels.
Taste: There is such a delicate, fruity demerara sweetness to the start of this dram that it descends effortlessly, and you instantly feel the need for more. It is at once orange and dried fruit mixed together.
The middle starts full of cherries and vanilla, but the spice explodes out of these notes. It is full of the same notes as cloves slotted into an orange and dried on a fire (or radiator if you are less posh). It is herbal and dark, dry and pungent.
The finish is melted milk chocolate, creamy, sweet and yet still fruity. Think dipping a strawberry into a chocolate fountain and you are somewhere close.
Real Dram Factor: This is my kind of thing – 8.9
You will like this if: You have even a passing interest in Christmas cake, sherry or just having a lovely time by a fire.
