I find few things more frustrating than being somewhere new and not knowing where I am going to find the best food and drink. Aroma: At first notes of floral honey mingle with salty air from the sea. As they waft past you they bring chimney smoke, peaty earth, orchard fruits and even sherried mustiness.

Taste: The start of this dram is butterscotch sweet, with gentle sherry fruit. In the middle is becomes grander, with a musty leathery quality. It carries oak and vanilla too, which round out the darker notes. The finish is hewn from the soil itself, peaty smoke and gathering gingery warmth that fill the palate and warm your throat.

Real Dram Factor: This is a mighty oak of a dram, hefty and aged, but delicate and delightful too. It resonates with all that I love about Islay whisky and represents its home incredibly well – 9.2

You will like this if: you are coming back from a day’s hike in the rain, looking for shelter by the fire.
