Christmas is a funny old season. With all the extra life admin that it brings, it can often feel like a thing to survive rather than enjoy. However, this year was pretty good fun. It was made that way by enjoyable time with both family and friends. Relaxing in the company of the people that you love, both allocated by life and selected by hand is always a good thing. Throw good food and booze into the mix and you have all the ingredients for a proper good laugh. So today’s review brings us (finally) to the second bottle of whisky that we bought to celebrate our whiskyfriendsmas with – a smoky counterpoint to the first dram.

Aroma: This whisky is pure hospital bandages, salty peat smoke and a big waft of citrus on the nose. So much so that I think at least two of the gang had full flashbacks to hospital visits earlier in the year and didn’t want to drink it.

Taste: The rest of us, enjoyed a remarkably calm start to this whisky, which is full of sweet, sherries dried fruit. think raisins, glacé cherries and sultanas.

The middle was chewy, dark and full of the type of red berry fruit that you often find in South American coffee.

Finally, the smoke appears – billowing and spicy, warming the inside of your lips.

Real Dram Factor: Aggressively smoky and exceptionally good – 8.9

You will like this if: you still like the band Hot Hot Heat.

ABV: 56.9%

Price: £94.95
